Title: City of Arcola Awarded $90,000 Grant for Wind Turbine
Date Published: 11/24/2009 6:13:09 AM
The City of Arcola has been awarded a $90,000 grant from the
Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation (ICEF) for installation
of a 40 kW wind turbine. Tick Tock Energy helped the City
develop this grant application for the installation of a 40 kW
Enertech wind turbine on a 120-foot tower located at the
municipality's wastewater treatment facility.
The proposed wind generator is expected to generate over 100,000
kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, or about 40% of the
plant's existing electricity requirements. However, the wind
turbine is part of a plan to also upgrade the energy-efficiency of
the aeration blower system. After the pending aeration system
retrofit, the wind turbine is projected to provide as much as 80%
of the plant's future electricity needs.
The wind turbine will serve as a key factor in helping the
municipal plant become near energy-independent and help the City of
Arcola hedge against future electricity rate inflation over the
next 25-years or more. Tick Tock Energy has helped the City
identify both the wind turbine and aeration blower retrofit
projects as a part of a comprehensive plan to both reduce and
produce plant electricity requirements.
