Title: Wind and Solar Power for Your Farm
Date Published: 8/22/2009 5:56:09 PM

Shelby County, IL:  Is a small wind turbine or solar photovoltaic (PV) system a good investment for your farm or business?  With the abundance of wind and solar energy in central Illinois a small wind generator or solar PV system can easily generate at least 50% or more of your electricity requirements.   With the right mix of energy conservation and renewable energy it is possible you can become energy independent and nearly wipe out your utility bill.

It's a great time to invest in wind and solar and reduce your energy costs.  Federal tax credits, accelerated depreciation, energy cost savings and other factors make wind and solar a cost-effective investment.  Attend this presentation to understand what options can work for you.

After the information presentation, a field visit to the Jim Macari Residence approximately 2 miles north of Shelbyville will be conducted.  The Macari Residence is home to a 10 kW Bergey wind turbine mounted on top of a 100-foot tower which was installed by Tick Tock Energy in May 2009.

This event is an outstanding opportunity to both learn about wind and solar, understand how you can reap a steady return on investment, see an actual operating small-scale wind system, and learn how to take the next steps to secure greater energy independence for your farm or business.

Tick Tock Energy, Inc. is a local turn-key provider of energy-efficiency and renewable energy services and will lead the day's event.  The first half of the morning will focus on learning about grid-tied small-wind and solar PV systems, their cost, energy cost savings potential, equipment performance, return on investment, available incentives and other related information.  The information will briefly address factoring energy-efficiency measures along with your renewable energy investment as part of an optimum energy management plan for your farm or business.

The workshop will be held Wednesday September 16th at the Shelby County 4-H building, directly behind the Shelby County Farm Bureau on Route 128 just North of Shelbyville.  We will begin with registration from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. and conclude by noon. Pre-registration is requested by Friday September 11th.  To pre-register or for more information, call the Post Oak Flats RC&D at 217/347-7107, ext. 6. or you may also register online:  www.ticktockenergy.com/contact.aspx In the message box - write RSVP WIND SEMINAR.  A registration fee of $5, is payable at the door.

This event is sponsored by Tick Tock Energy, Shelby County Soil and Water Conservation District, USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, Heartland of Illinois Resource Conservation and Development, and Post Oak Flats Resource Conservation & Development.
