Available Incentives for Commercial Farm Solar

Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC)

The solar ITC is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in tax liability and reduce the tax you pay to the federal government. Until 2033, you can claim 30% of your solar system costs as a tax credit, with no cap to the value you can claim.  Additional 10% bonus adders can boost this to 40% and possibly 50% if located in an energy community and use a certain level of domestic content.

USDA REAP Grant

The USDA REAP Grant program is available to agricultural producers with at least 50% of their gross income coming from agricultural operations. This grant provides up to 25% in grant funding and can provide loan guarantees to finance your energy projects. Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)

SRECs provide an outstanding solar incentive for Illinois farmers  to recoup a solar system’s investment. In Illinois, SRECs can potentially cover 20% to 40% of your total solar investment. SRECs accrue as solar electricity and sold to the State under a long-term contract typically paid out quarterly over seven years or at other intervals defined by each state.

Solar Utility Rebates

Where available solar rebates may be available from the local utility. In Illinois, Ameren and Comed customers can obtain the Smart Inverter Rebate (SIR) and if battery energy storage included the Distributed Generation rebate can also be obtained.
