Commercial Solar Power Incentives

Rising Electricity Costs Are Eating Into Your Profits. Commercial solar helps you gain control of your energy expenses while leveraging incentives that make going solar more affordable than ever.

Solar Incentives Don't Have to Be Complicated

Reducing energy costs with solar can deliver strong financial returns, but understanding incentives can be overwhelming. We help businesses identify and capture available tax credits, grants, and rebates to maximize project value and accelerate payback.

Tax Credits

The federal government offers the Investment Tax Credit (ITC). For commercial businesses, this is now slated to expire 12/31/27. Don't delay!

SREC Incentive

In states like Illinois, the Illinois Shines Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC) incentive pays you for solar electricity produced over time.

Solar Rebates

In addition to tax credits and SREC incentives solar rebates are also available in Illinois.

Grants

We have extensive grant writing experience and have helped many customers also land lucrative grants for their projects too.

Available Solar Incentives for Your Business

You have access to multiple incentives, at both the federal and state levels, to make the upfront costs and overall investment in solar more manageable for your business.

Commercial Solar Incentive

Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC)

The Federal Investment Tax Credit can reduce the cost of a solar project by 30% or more through a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. Additional bonus incentives may be available for qualifying projects, including 10% for those located in Energy Communities or additional 10% using domestic content. While solar incentives are being phased out by end of 2027, valuable opportunities remain for businesses that act soon.

Bonus or Accelerated Depreciation

Eligible businesses may be able to deduct up to 100% of a solar investment in the first year through bonus depreciation. Solar equipment is generally treated as 5-year property under MACRS, helping accelerate tax savings and improve ROI. Consult your CPA for guidance.

Illinois Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) / Illinois Shines Program

Illinois offers one of the most valuable solar incentives in the country. Through the Illinois Shines program, Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) can potentially cover 20-40% of your solar project cost, significantly improving payback and ROI.

SRECs are earned as your system generates electricity, creating an additional source of financial value beyond energy savings.

Ameren-Illinois & Comed Smart Inverter Rebate

Smart inverters provide active voltage and frequency control while communicating with utilities. As Illinois strives for more electricity from renewable sources, the state has rolled out several incentives to move its energy portfolio toward solar and wind resources. These incentives include a rebate when you purchase a smart inverter for your business’ solar panel installation.

To access this rebate, customers must enroll under a net metering tariff that only provides net metering credits for the generation (supply) portion of a customer’s utility bill. The rebate covers $250 per kilowatt (kW) of your project’s direct current capacity.

Distributed Generation (DG) Rebate for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Reduce the cost of battery storage with Illinois’ DG Storage Rebate. Eligible Ameren Illinois and ComEd customers can receive a rebate based on installed battery capacity, making energy storage more affordable while improving resiliency, demand management, and long-term energy savings. Qualification requirements apply.

USDA REAP Grant for Small Businesses

CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE* Small rural businesses and farms can benefit from a USDA REAP grant, providing funding for renewable energy projects or energy-efficiency retrofits. These grants also provide loan guarantees. If your business is located in a rural area with a population under 50,000 people, this grant can provide up to 25% in grant funding.

While this grant is highly competitive, Tick Tock Energy offers grant-writing services to assist you. We have a long track record of success helping our clients obtain grant funding.

*As of 2026 the USDA REAP grant availability is uncertain. Please check with us for current status. Meanwhile, don’t miss out on other valuable incentives listed on this page!

Illinois Solar For All (ILSFA) for Non-Profit & Public Facilities & Community Solar

Backup energy system - Tick Tock Energy
Is the U.S. Energy Grid Reliable? Power outages are not always dramatic, multi-hour blackouts. For many farms and businesses, the most expensive disruption is a split-second “blip” – the lights flicker, equipment resets, a controller faults, a process step fails, a production line stops, but it all happens so quickly, it’s hard to tell anything has happened at all.
