Ameren Illinois Net Metering – Latest Update December 2020.

Great News for Ameren Illinois Net Metering Customers!

Ameren Illinois is ordered to restore FULL net metering to new solar owners! This applies to Ameren Illinois residential and small commercial customers with a solar installation on their home or business.

Recall our November 17, 2020 blog post describing Ameren Illinois’ controversial decision to announce a renewable energy threshold had been reached. This permitted them to stop offering FULL net metering to new solar customers in favor of a new, less valuable, PARTIAL net metering system.

On December 2, 2020, the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) said Ameren was not using the correct method to calculate when they could change to PARTIAL net metering. The ICC says the correct calculation shows Ameren is not yet allowed to discontinue FULL net metering. Therefore, Ameren was ordered to restore FULL net metering to new solar customers.

What’s next?

Ameren may make the adjustments or file for a rehearing. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you up to date.

For now, this is great news for Illinois families and businesses on Ameren lines who want the maximum benefit from their solar arrays!
