Available Solar Power Incentives to Explore
Solar power incentives can help you make your system more affordable. A Tick Tock Energy sales consultant can help you identify both state and federal solar incentives for your area and help optimize your investment.
Illinois Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)
If you live in Illinois, you can take advantage of SRECs, which provide an outstanding opportunity for you to recoup your investment. Illinois SRECs can potentially cover 20-40% of the cost of your solar power system. One SREC equals 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of solar energy generated. SRECs accrue as solar electricity is generated and are typically paid out quarterly.
Illinois SRECs provide an outstanding solar incentive that helps owners recoup a solar system’s investment. These energy credits, which are available in Illinois and other select states, have been created to help states meet Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS). These RPS set goals for generating a percentage of that state’s overall electricity from renewable energy. In Illinois, for example, an SREC can potentially cover 20% to 40% of the total solar investment.
Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
As of 12/31/2025 the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for residential solar has expired for direct-owned installations. For commercial, farm and non-profit entities, the ITC still remains but subject to additional rules and phaseout timeline. If you’re in Illinois, other solar incentives and rebates exist which can help recoup the cost of going solar.
Illinois Smart Inverter Rebate (SIR)
If you are an Ameren Illinois, Comed, or Midamerican electricity customer and go solar, you might qualify for SIR if your system utilizes a smart inverter. This incentive currently pays up to $250 per kW (DC) of rated system capacity. As part of our service, we can help you apply for rebate which is typically paid about 3 to 6 months after system installation.
