Celebrating 16 years in business, Effingham-based Solar Company Receives Coveted Solar Award

Effingham, IL — Local solar installer, Tick Tock Energy, is proud to be named one of the top solar contractors in the United States by Solar Power World magazine. Tick Tock Energy achieved a national rank of 325 and is being recognized for the eighth year in a row.

Celebrating its 16th year in business, Tick Tock Energy is Central Illinois’ longest-established solar installer, founded when the solar industry nationally was in its infancy. In 2021, Tick Tock Energy energized 1,597 kilowatts (kW) of solar installations in Illinois and Missouri for homes, farms, businesses, and non-profit facilities. They also saw 122 kW of battery storage systems installed.

Among its 2021 highlights, Tick Tock Energy installed its largest project to date, a 700 kW roof-mounted system atop Koerner Distributor, Inc., a large-scale adult beverage distributor in Effingham, IL. Other highlights include a 50 kW array at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, IL and a 20 kW installation that powers the brand new Teutopolis Village Hall. Residential customers across the state went solar with Tick Tock Energy in 2021, totaling 54 households at 497 kW.

Recently, inflation and rising utility rates have driven a large increase in demand in the solar industry in Illinois and beyond. Customers are generating their own electricity, lowering their bills, and hedging against inflation, as energy and materials prices continue to rise. The federal government recently passed a ten-year extension on the solar investment tax credit (ITC, which will further accelerate solar adoption across all market segments).

The company has seen a surging interest in energy security and greater energy independence. Solar systems that are battery ready, include batteries, and/or augmented by an emergency backup generator are rapidly growing in interest. Craig Pals, company VP added “from small projects to large, owners are very interested in generating their own electricity from the sun reducing reliance from the utility grid.”

The Top Solar Contractors list is developed each year by Solar Power World to honor the work of solar installers in the United States. Solar Power World is the leading online and print resource for news and information regarding solar installation, development, and technology.

“The utility-scale solar market, of course, puts up huge installation numbers each year, but the majority of workers in the industry are constructing projects in the commercial and residential markets, which continue to break records,” said Kelly Pickerel, editor in chief of Solar Power World. “Over 85% of the companies on the 2022 Top Solar Contractors List primarily work in the residential and commercial sectors, and they all reported closing out the last year in a positive light.”
