Mattoon, IL — Tick Tock Energy has completed installation a 47.3 kW (DC) solar canopy at the newly revitalized Castle Pub, blending clean energy with community-focused redevelopment in Mattoon.
The solar-powered canopy is a signature feature of the reimagined Castle Pub, a local landmark with more than 100 years of history. Under new ownership, the venue now includes an expanded three-season patio, outdoor concert space, and enhanced amenities—positioning it as a premier gathering place for the community and attraction for outside visitors in town for Mattoon’s new Emerald Acres sporting facilities.
The approximately 1,500-square-foot canopy provides shade for patrons enjoying live music, food, and beverages, while simultaneously generating clean renewable electricity to offset the pub’s growing electricity needs. With increased refrigeration, gaming lounge, longer operating hours, and expanded outdoor use, the solar canopy system helps reduce operating costs while supporting new business growth.
Tick Tock Energy partnered with Lumos Solar, a Colorado-based canopy and solar integration manufacturer, to deliver the structure. The canopy is designed for long-term performance and durability, with an expected 50-year structural lifespan and 25+ years of solar production. “This project is a great example of how solar can grow business revenue while reducing electric bills. The canopy expands useable square foot, keep customers cool and comfortable, and become a centerpiece of a property,” said Craig Pals, Tick Tock’s co-founder. “We’re proud to support Castle Pub as it enters its next century with a modern, energy-smart approach.”
In addition to the canopy installation, Tick Tock Energy and it’s subcontractor Pals Electric completed significant electrical infrastructure upgrades across the property to support the pub’s expansion and future growth.
